Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my grind size is correct?
Taste is the best indicator. If your coffee is bitter and astringent, your grind is too fine. If it tastes sour and watery, grind finer. Adjust by one or two clicks at a time.
Can I use pre-ground coffee for espresso?
Pre-ground coffee is usually a medium grind, which is too coarse for espresso. Espresso requires a fine grind that you can only get reliably from a burr grinder set to espresso range.
What is the difference between blade and burr grinders?
Blade grinders chop beans unevenly, producing inconsistent particle sizes. Burr grinders crush beans between two surfaces for a uniform grind, which is essential for good extraction.
Does grind size affect caffeine content?
Indirectly, yes. Finer grinds extract more quickly, so a properly brewed espresso extracts efficiently despite short contact time. But total caffeine depends more on the amount of coffee used and brew time.
How often should I clean my coffee grinder?
Clean your grinder every 2-4 weeks to prevent stale oil buildup. Use grinder cleaning tablets or dry rice, then brush out retained grounds from the burrs.
